DIY Medicated Fish Food Recipe

Internal Parasite

Most medication for treating internal parasites is added directly to the water column but it can be more effective when mixed with food and eaten by the fish. When consumed the medicated food gets to the source of the problem, the intestines, at a much higher concentration. While there are some medicated fish foods available on the market they can be difficult to find and very expensive.

Making your own medicated fish food is simple and very cost effective.

What you will need:

API-General-Cure

Instructions for Making Medicated Fish Food:

  • Pour a ½ cup of fish food pellets into a bowl.
  • Add ½ tablespoon of Epsom salt and mix well.
  • Add 2 sachets of API General Cure and mix well.
  • Add enough tank water to cover the food.
  • Wait for 30 minutes to allow the pellets to soak up the medication before feeding to your fish.
  • The excess food can be allowed to dry and fed over the next 3 to 5 days.

For best results I would recommend feeding with medicated fish food for a period of 3 to 5 days in addition to treating the tank with medication as per manufacturer’s instructions.
